10-Year-old Killed by UWA Game Rangers

A 10-year-old girl has reportedly been killed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) game rangers on Mt. Elgon.
Rita Namayama, a resident of Bumbo sub-county in Manafwa district was allegedly beaten and killed by game rangers on Monday. The game rangers allegedly accused her of being part of the group that has encroached upon the wildlife reserve.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander, Taire Idwege, has confirmed the incident. He however says that police are investigating the circumstances under which the girl was killed.

Idwege says the Monday incident, is one of the several complaints that encroachers have filed against Uganda Wild Life Authority (UWA) Game Rangers on Mt Elgon.
Idwege says game park rangers employed by Uganda Wildlife officials are accused of sodomy, rape, murder and even bestiality. The game park rangers have been involved in the eviction of communities encroaching upon the wildlife reserve.
