A health worker in Kabale has been remanded in Jail for theft of medical equipment and drugs.
Justus Mujuni was sent to Jail, following evidence produced in court which showed that he stole drugs and equipment worth millions of shillings from Kamwezi health center in Kabale.
Prosecution told court that Mujuni stole the drugs in June 2006 and hid them in his home at Majwari village in Kamwezi. The drugs were later discovered in his drug shop at Majwari Trading Center.
Appearing before grade 1 magistrate, Juliet Nakitende, Mujuni however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He was however pinned by two witnesses- Dr.Patrict Tusiime, the District Director of Health Services, and Jane Mbonigaba, the District Drug Inspector.
Dr.Tusiime told court that the theft of drugs by government health workers is common.
The grade 1 magistrate sent the accused on remand at Ndorwa Government Prison until Match 6th when he re-appears in court.
