Mukono District Leadership in Trouble over Abuse of Office

News
Mukono district leadership has been hit by internal wrangles which are threatening to split the NRM dominated district council.

Some District Councilors now want NRM Party Secretary General Amama Mbabazi to save the reputation of the Party.

Some councilors who recently resigned from their elective posts in the District Council have accused the leadership led by Mukono District Chairman, Francis Mukoome Lukooya of incompetence and abuse of office.

The councillors have also accused the Mukono District Chief Engineer, Fred Seguya, for allegedly diverting road equipment to private use in Jinja District. The Councilors say abuse of Government equipment is rampant in the District and that the leadership should be held accountable for such illegal transactions.

Police in Jinja yesterday impounded the equipment, which included graders and arrested the site engineer who had reportedly been deployed by Seguya.

But the Divisional Police Commander, Christopher Barugahare said he was not aware of the arrest and the impounded equipment.

But a District Official says the site engineer is to be transferred to Kampala this evening to face interrogation at the CID Headquarters.

Some of the District Councilors were today summoned to the Criminal Investigations Deportment in Kampala, to make statements about the alleged fraud in Mukono district.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, some of the councillors who were summoned to the CID told journalists that they were quizzed over the equipment which was transferred to Jinja.

Hajji Ali Kalungi Ssalongo the Kimenyede sub-countty councillor, and Makanga Munonye the Nakisunga Sub County councillor said the gross abuse of office in Mukono District is a cause for concern.
