Hundreds Left Homeless in Soroti Floods

A heavy rainstorm, coupled with widespread flooding, has left hundreds of residents of Kamuda Sub County in Soroti district homeless.

The floods triggered off by a heavy down pour that began on Monday and continued till Tuesday, left more than 400 people stranded with no food or shelter.

The most affected villages are Olwela - Obuja and Olobai- Okimai.

Several hectares of crop plantations were submerged in water.

People displaced by floods have taken refugee at primary schools.

The Olobai Okimai LC 1 Chairman, John Elianu, says the sitiuation is grave because many people have no where to sleep.

The Kamuda sub county LC3 Chairman, Julius Oyuru, has sent an urgent call for relief aid to government and all humanitarian organizations in the area.
