Otafiire Vows to Redevelop all KCC Markets

Politics
Local Government minister Kahinda Otafiire, has vowed to redevelop all Kampala City Council markets, despite the vendors plea to be allowed to manage them.
Speaking shortly after the presentation of KCC budget, Otafiire said that he will not apologize for making unpopular decisions for as long as it takes to redevelop the markets.
Otafiire said that he will not preside over an institution that doesn't support development in the city. He attacked opposition Members of parliament for interfering with his work without making proper research.
Otafire however said that he would not support any unfair displacement of market vendors by the developers. He said that he has instructed all developers to consider the interests of the developers.

Otafiire also took a swipe at the central division chairman, Godfrey Nyakaana, for interfering with the commission of inquiry investigating financial mismanagement in Central Division.
Nyakaana has since the inauguration of the commission, been quoted attacking Otafiire over the commission. Nyakaana argues that the commission is intended to witch-hunt him.
But Otafiire maintains that the commission would investigate any person suspected to be involved in the alleged fraud scams in Kampala's central division.
