Ambulance Impounded for Carrying Building Materials

Police in Lira have impounded an ambulance, for ferrying building materials.

The Amach health center IV ambulance, Registration number UG 2231M was intercepted while on transit to a construction site in Abako sub county, 40 kilometers east of Lira town.

The district police commander, Raymond Otim, says that on inspection, police found bags of cement, iron sheets and timber, loaded onto the ambulance that is otherwise intended for transporting the sick or injured people.

According to the DPC, the building materials belong to a medical officer attached to Amach Health center.

The driver, Joel Nengo, was arrested and detained at Lira Central Police Station.

The DPC says that Nengo will be taken to court this morning to answer charges of abuse of office and corruption.
