Kampala City Council is considering rounding up the mentally ill and expelling the lunatics out of the city ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
During an operation last week, 28 suspected mentally ill persons were rounded up and taken to unknown places.
KCC Spokesperson, Simon Muhumuza, confirms the operation. He says that the operation is intended to rid the city of mentally ill people to avoid creating any harm to society.
According to Muhumuza, the mentally ill persons were taken to Butabika hospital, a claim disputed by Butabika Hospital authorities.
The Butabika Principal Hospital Administrator, Ronald Segawa, said that the mentally ill persons, who were rounded up from the city streets, have never been taken to Butabika hospital.
