Two of Dr. Kizza Besigye's lawyers who were arrested and charged with contempt of court yesterday have been released.
Caleb Alaka and Elias Lukwago were arrested after the protested the proceedings of the General Court Martial, which tried Besigye with terrorism and illegal arms possession yesterday. The two lawyers argued that it was irregular for the court to charge Besigye, when 22 of his co-accused were not in the court. However the chairman of the Court Martial, Gen. Elly Tumwiine ruled them out of order. He said they were disrupting the proceedings and charged them with contempt of court.
Alaka and Lukwago were ordered to pay a fine of 1000 shillings each and were released at around 5 PM yesterday.
