Amuru district leaders of Amuru and Nebbi have halted eviction of more than 800 Alur from Got-Afoyo in Purongo sub-county, Amuru district.
The Amuru district authorities had earlier issued a 14- day-ultimatum, ordering the Alur's to either leave or face forceful eviction.
The land under dispute is being occupied by more than 800 people mainly the Alur's who fled from Jonam in Nebbi following the Lakwena and Kony Insurgencies.
The wrangle over land between Nebbi and Amuru districts was sparked off in 1999 when Nebbi leaders dismantled a signpost at Yago Pino, across Albert Nile showing that the land under dispute belonged to the Alur and not the Acholi.
During a meeting between the Nebbi and Amuru district leaders, it was resolved that the Alur's be registered and settled under Amuru district.
Nebbi district Chairman, John Paschal Wapokra, says Nebbi has no intention to colonize and extend its boundaries into Amuru district.
