Three Cable Thieves Convicted in Mbale

Three cables thieves have today been convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Mbale Chief Magistrate court.

The duo- Stephen Muhama and Fred Makoyo were convicted after they pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecution told court that the two stole 600 meters of electricity power cables valued at 3.6 million shillings.

They committed the offence on May 14th, in Busiu Sub County.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Musa Musimbi, said the suspects should serve a lighter sentence of three years instead of 15 years, because the two had a big number of dependents to look after.

Meanwhile three other suspected cable thieves have been remanded to Maluku government prison till tomorrow when their case comes up for mention.

The suspects are Latif Wanyama, Musa Khauka and Ali Adam. They are accused of stealing copper conductors valued 3.6 million shillings.
