University Student Caned for Theft

A student of Islamic University in Mbale has been given six strokes of the cane for allegedly attempting to steal a generator.
Alex Madoi, a resident of Mission cell in Namakwekwe was yesterday paraded before the LC1 court where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The Mission cell LC1 chairperson, Sowedi Bugoma, says Madoi stole the generator from a pick up truck that got stuck on the road.
Bugoma says that while some people were helping remove the truck out of the Mud, Madoi took this as an opportunity to sneak away the generator.
He was however arrested following his suspicious behavior.
On interrogation, Madoi who claims to be a student of the Islamic University in Uganda Mbale said he stole and hid the generator at a friend's place.
He said that he planned to sell it off.
According to Bugoma, Madoi is a habitual thief and has on several occasions been apprehended for stealing stoves and saucepans.
