Government Investigates Apac Shooting

News
Government is investigating the circumstances under which a police officer deployed to guard a land surveyor in Apac district shot and killed a man caught up in a land wrangle.
Private Nanga, a police officer attached to Apac police station, is alleged to have shot and killed a civilian caught up in a land wrangle in Tekidi village, in Apac district.
Okello Maradona, was killed while trying to block a surveyor from demarcating the disputed land. Two family heads- Jebedayo Oceng and Adoko Ayo are wrangling over a 15-hactare piece of land.
The surveyor was acting on the orders of the court.
But Daniel Omara Atubo, the lands minister says that the police officer acted irrationally by shooting at the civilian. He also blames the magistrate for dispatching the surveyor before alerting the local authorities.
Atubo however says that the probe is intended to establish the actual cause of the shooting. He says that this would help government to determine the nature of compensation that should be given to the victim's family.
