Bunyoro Approves of Elected Kingdom Premier

News
The Bunyoro Kingdom supports a government proposal to have publicly elected kingdom Prime Ministers.

The incumbent Bunyoro Prime Minister, Erisa Kagoro Byenkya, says the kingdom is in support of an elected premier who will ensure accountability, transparency and development. He says this will not be the first time Bunyoro has had an elected Prime Minister.

The position of the Bunyoro Kingdom starkly contrasts that of the Buganda Kingdom, which has vehemently opposed proposals for an elected Katikiro.

Two weeks ago Buganda Kingdom loyalists stormed the Parliament to petition the Speaker, Edward Sekandi, against the establishment of an elected Katikiro. The loyalists asserted that electing a Katikiro would undermine the authority of the Kabaka of Buganda.
