The Lira district Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF), administrator, Christine Odwe, is in trouble for alleged corruption and abuse of office.
The NUSAF Executive Director, Dr. Christopher Laker, says that his office has received several reports showing that Odwe has been soliciting money from the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to endorse their projects for NUSAF support.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, some internally displaced persons told Uganda Radio Network that they were being asked to pay between 150,000 and 250,000 shillings to have their projects approved for NUSAF funding.
Odwe however ran out of luck after some disgruntled IDPs alerted the NUSAF headquarters and the police. The IDPs complained that some of their projects have not been approved despite the fact that they paid the money.
Laker says that Odwe is also accused of illegally awarding NUSAF projects and contract work to her Company.
Odwe has been summoned by the Gulu Criminal Investigations officer for questioning. She has however dismissed the accusations against her as baseless.
Last year, the Lira district NUSAF Technical Officer, Dr. Joel Ongebo, was sacked for mismanaging more than one billion shillings, from the NUSAF fund.
