Pakistani National Jailed for Drug Trafficking

Yusuf Ali, a Pakistan national who was arrested last week with four kilograms of heroine has been sent to jail in Kigo government prison.
Yusuf Ali was jointly arrested with Mansoor Ali was at Entebbe airport while trying to smuggle into the country, four kilograms of heroine valued at 70 million shillings.
The duo appeared before court yesterday and was charged with being in possession of a narcotic drug. They pleaded guilty to the charges. Mansoor Ali, told court that he was an accomplice to heroine trafficking heroine and was fined 500,000 shillings.
Yusuf Ali on the other hand was fined 1.5 million shillings, and issued with a deportation order. He however failed to raise the money and was sent to jail.
The Entebbe airport police commandant, Herman Owomugisha, says that police are hunting for Mansoor, who is believed to have fled the country after paying the money.
Police are still holding Mansoor Ali's vehicle which he traveled in to Entebbe to pick Yusuf Ali.
Mansoor Ali once operated an electronic shop at Garden City, a popular shopping mall in Kampala, but he has since closed after failing to pay rent.
The United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention says illicit trafficking of drugs in Uganda is on the rise. It says Entebbe International Airport is a popular transit route for Heroin and Mandrax from the Far East en route to South Africa.
Increased seizures of heroin with Nigerian connections bound for Uganda through Ethiopia have also been noted.
