Severals farmers in Nakapiripirit district are stranded with their produce following the recent floods that hit the eastern region.
The majority of the farmers are unable to transport their sorghum and maize to Mbale about, 67miles away from the district.
From Namalu's endless maize fields, to Lokatapan's bountiful sorghum and rice plantations, a similar refrain is being heard -- the floods are beginning to bite, and bite hard.
Festo Lotenyang, one of the farmers is stranded with 50 bags of onions he harvested from his six acre piece of land. he expolains his plight.
// Cue in: iI brought this onions#i
Cue out i#they are rottingi//
but despite the mounting worries, the Nakapiripirit District Agricultural Officer, Mario Tengei Lokut, is optimistic that the current marketing snag will not deter Nakapiripirit district from attaining a food basket status.
