Dutch Government Cuts Aid to Uganda

The Dutch government has withheld budget support to Uganda of more than 13 billion shillings.



A statement from the Netherlands Embassy in Kampala says the Netherlands Government is concerned that insufficient progress is being made in Uganda's governance.



The statement says the reduced budgetary support will be diverted to humanitarian activities in northern Uganda. It administered through United Nations agencies.



The Netherlands joins key donors that have cut aid over the slow democratic transition process in Uganda. The British, the Irish and Danish have previously withheld budget support.
