David Kalema, a Referee of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) survived being lynched by rowdy fans in Masaka.
Kalema ran into trouble after he sent Saidi Kizito, of Masaka LC Football Club off the pitch.
Kalema gave Kizito a red card on grounds that he acted unprofessionally by attacking Steven Bengo of sports club Villa.
But the referees' decision did not go down well with Masaka LC players who argued that it was instead Bengo who acted unprofessionally.
The Masaka LC Captain, Nuldin Kaweesi said that a red card was not warranted for such a minor incident.
The match was delayed for about 5 minutes before players were calmed down by their coach to complete the match.
In the 52nd minute of the match, Bengo scored the winning goal for SC Villa winning Masaka LC on 1:0.
After the match, Masaka LC fans and players again attacked Kalema with sticks and stones claiming that he contributed greatly to their loss.
Kalema was rescued by Local Security personnel of the reserve force that were guarding the pitch. He was tightly guarded out side the football grounds and led to a car which sped off immediately.
