A local administration police officer has been sent on remand in Kiryatete government prison in Hoima district for murder.
Corporal Christopher Muhule attached to Buseruka sub-county administration police post is alleged to have shot and killed Godfrey Bigirwa, during a stand off between law enforcement officers and the traders at Bujawe forest reserve in Kyakakoizi village Kitoba Sub County, Hoima district.
The incident occurred last year during an operation mounted by the National Forestry Authority enforcement officers to crack down on illegal timber dealers in Bujawe forest reserve.
Muhule was forced to pull the trigger when the timber dealers started pelting stones at the NFA officers, protesting against the way their timber was impounded. The bullet unfortunately hit one of the traders killing him on spot.
During a court hearing on Friday, Hoima grade two magistrate, Philemon Kasereka, said that the accused should be remanded pending a high court session later this year.
