Seven hundred pupils have failed the Koran examinations.
More than 2,000 pupils in 26 primary schools registered for the primary leaving Islamic examinations, which are coordinated by the Uganda Quaran School Association.
Releasing the results this afternoon, Sheikh Ahmad Yahaya Lukwago, the chairman Uganda Quaran Schools Association, said only 231 pupils passed in grade one, 270 in grade two, and 608 pupils were ranked in the forth grade.
Abdu Tebandeke of Lufuka Islamic primary school in Wakiso district emerged the best candidate, followed by Bukhaar Maganda of Arqam Islamic primary school in Iganga, and Usaama Mugerwa of Lufuka Islamic primary in Wakiso district.
Lukwago blamed unqualified teachers for the poor performance. He explained that some schools are hiring unqualified teachers to teach Islamic studies.

Lukwago says that the 700 candidates who failed the exams may be required to repeat.
