Milk Vendors to Sue Umeme for Arbitrary Load Shedding

Business
Milk vendors in Lyantonde have threatened to sue the electricity distribution company, Umeme, for the losses they have incurred as a result of regular abrupt load shedding.
During a meeting in Lyantonde town yesterday, the milk vendors lamented about the 200 liters of milk they lose every time Umeme makes unannounced power disconnections. They said Umeme has never announced load shedding schedules to them and they are unable to plan for their businesses.
Francis Muhumuza, chairperson of Lyantonde Milk Vendors Association, said that over the past week Umeme has disconnected power to the town on a daily basis without prior notice. He said attempts to seek and explanation from Umeme were futile and that the association's lawyers have been instructed to start legal proceedings against the power company.
The milk vendors welcomed the planed action. They said they had invited the Umeme officials in Lyantonde to attend their meeting, but they declined the invitation.
