A year after the Town Clerk of Kabwohe-Itendero Town Council in Bushenyi was sacked for corruption a new council manager has been appointed by the district authorities.
Reverend Ruben Mugarura, the old Town Clerk of Kabwohe-Itendero, was sacked in 2006 after an investigation by the office of the Inspector General of Government pinned him to the theft of more than 200 million shillings in public funds. Mugarura and the Town Treasurer, Vincent Bigirwa, were interdicted by the IGG and the Town Clerk was forced to resign from his job.
The Bushenyi Chief Administrative Officer, Charles Kiberu, now reveals that his assistant, David Betega, has been has been assigned to take charge of the town. He says the appointment has been vetted by the Bushenyi District Service Commission.
There is little information regarding the intended prosecution of Reuben Mugarura and Vincent Bigirwa and district authorities are tight-lipped about plans to prosecute them for embezzlement. Despite the accusations against him, Bigirwa has remained in office and fully performs his role as Town Council Treasurer.
The Mayor of Kabwohe-Itendero, John Kahindi, could not be reached for a comment on the case.
