A private security guard with Sek Security Services was this morning discovered murdered at the offices of Action on Disability and Development on Bukoto Street in Kampala.
28-year-old Joyce Bitumbi was discovered lying in a pool of blood with two deep cuts to the back of her head. There was also blood on vehicles parked in the office compound as well as in the room of shamba boy identified as Robert Male.
Alex Asiimwe, the Kiira Road Divisional Police Commander, says Male is being held to explain the circumstances surrounding the murder. He says that after the attack on the guard, the thieves broke into the Action on Disability and Development safe, but took nothing because there was no money in it.
The police recovered a machete that was used in murder.
The death of the guard brought activity along Bukoto Street to a halt for several hours in the morning. Joyce Bitumbi was permanently deployed to the Action on Disability and Development and was well known to many people in the area.
Particularly concerned about the murder were Bitumbi's colleagues from Sek Security Services. They said that sometimes they are approached to collude in robberies of the properties they are deployed to guard.
