A health worker at Rugashari Rugashali Health Center 3 in Kibaale district has been arrested for stealing drugs worth more than two million shillings.
Peter Tibikira, a nursing officer at the health center was caught red handed sneaking two boxes of drugs from the health center to his private clinic located in Rugashali Trading Centre.
Kibaale Wandera, the Kibaale District Police Commander, says the stolen drugs include 192 mectizan tablets used in the treatment of elephantiasis. He was also found with the new coatem drugs used in malaria treatment, gauze, dextrose fluids, plastic bags used in packing the drugs, and syringes.
On interrogation, Tibikira, told police that he stole the drugs, with the intent of replenishing drug stocks at his home.
The DPC says that Tibikira will be produced in court shortly to answer charges of theft and Embezzlement.
