Police in Rakai have arrested two men in Nkalu village Kabira Sub County for the murder of a 12-year-old herds-boy, Rwakitarahi Bull.
Juma Okungo, the Rakai District Police Commander, identified the suspects as Daniel Kabula, and Wilson Kanyenziki, both residents of Nkalu village.
Police suspects the two men murdered the 12-year-old boy when the animals he was grazing strayed and destroyed crops in their gardens. Local reports indicate the herds boy was asleep when the animals wandered off to the gardens of Kabula and Kanyenziki. The irate men traced him to a spot where he was still in sleep, attacked and killed him. His body was found dumped in nearby bushes.
Rakai police say the body was discovered on Monday and the post mortem report showed that the boy died of strangulation. He had also been badly beaten.
Police reports show that ordinary cases of land trespassing have become more violent.
Last year, Rakai District witnessed an influx of cattle from neighboring Tanzania which increased tension on land in the District. The most affected sub-counties are Kakuuto, Kabira and Lwanda.
Mathias Kasamba, the Kakuuto Member of Parliament, said that many people have failed to draw a line between the local cattle keepers in the District and those coming in from Tanzania. He said that on many occasions, hostility is generally directed at all cattle keeping families.
