Gulu Woman MP Threatens to Sue RDC for Assault

News
Gulu district Woman Member of Parliament, Betty Aol, has threatened to sue the Resident District Commissioner for assault.
The intent to sue stems from an incident on Saturday, in which the two politicians clashed at a women's day celebration in Gulu.
Aol who turned up at Palaro Sub County headquarters eager to preside over the function as the guest of honour was thrown aback when Milton Odongo, the deputy Resident District Commissioner also turned up and claimed that he was the official chief guest.
The situation turned nasty both Aol and the RDC stood up to inspect the guard of honour mounted in honour for the chief guest. The two started grumbling over who had the right to inspect the guard of honour. It took the intervention of Norbert Mao, the district chairman, to calm the situation.
Aol claims that she was manhandled by the RDC's security escorts and the OC of Gulu Justino Ovuru, in an attempt to restrain her from inspecting the guard of honour.

The deputy RDC has issued an apology for the fracas. He described the incident as unfortunate but maintained that the MP wrongfully interfered with protocol.

But Aol is not taking the incident lightly. She says will take the matter to the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association, where she works as General Secretary. She says that the women parliamentary association will seek to find out why state agents are acting in contravention with the government's women's emancipation advocacy program.
