Atopi prison Warder Commits suicide

News
A prison warder at Atopi Government prison in Apac district has committed suicide. The 40-year-old peter Oling was found dead this morning.

The circumstances under which the prison warder killed himsellf are still unclear.

But some people do not rule out the possibility that the warder was under pressure to produce more than 600,000 shillings that went missing from his office.

According to Andrew Beerung-Ga, the OC Atopi government Prison, Oling was being accused of swindling the money which was placed under his custody by relatives of some detainees.

The money in question belonged to 21 suspects who were detained briefly in Atopi and transferred to Gulu. The suspects were being accused of attacking attack the Balaalo. They were however released last week.

Their release from prison however spelt doom for the prison warder. The suspects demanded for their money in vain. They forwarded the matter to the OC who put Oling on pressure to either release the money or face arrest.

Police is however investigating the circumstances under which the prison warder committed suicide.
