Internally Displaced Persons in Lira District demand for sufficient security and food supplies before they can be resettled.
The demand follows a recent directive by President Yoweri Museveni that people from IDP camps in the Lango and Teso sub-regions should be resettled by end of December.
The Member of Parliament for Otuke County in Lira district, Daniel Omara Atubo said that Government should guarantee security as well as other basic requirements like food and shelter before the IDPs can be moved.
In his directive Museveni said government would provide food for the first six months, and also supply planting materials and seeds.
The UPDF 5th division army spokesperson, Lt. Deo Akiki, said the army is still discussing the resettlement programme to come up clear procedures on the guaranteeing security for the returnees.
An estimated 1.6 million people in Northern Uganda live in Internally Displaced Persons' camps.
