A teacher of Hamurwa Primary School has been found lying dead in her home, with the body of her sister-in-law a few meters away.
23-year-old Divioni Korugyendo was discovered with her stomach slit open with a knife and with bruises on her face. She was five months pregnant at the time of her death and her unborn child was killed in the murder.
The Kabale District Police Commander, Sammy Okeke, says that besides the mutilated body was found on the floor of Korugyendo's room on Saturday night. The body of her 8-year-old sister-in-law, Angela Katushabe, was also found lying in her room. A postmortem indicates that the two victims were strangled to death.
Odeke says the incident was reported by the headmaster of Hamurwa Primary School, Charles Asiimwe, who was informed of the gruesome murder that took place on the school campus.
Asiimwe disclosed that it is suspected the assailant was a teacher from a neighbouring school, who attempted to woo Korugyendo to no avail. He says Korugyendo told several of her friends that the teacher, only known to the Hamurwa administrators as Denis Suicide, ignored Korugyendo's rejection and continuously pestered her.
Officer Odeke says Denis Suicide is on the run and hasn't been seen since Saturday evening.
Korugyendo's body was taken to her ancestral home in Kanungu for burial today.
