Twenty acres of police Land in Naguru, a Kampala suburb has been given out to Oscar industries, on the orders of the president.
The land in question is located off the Ntinda-Nakawa road, adjacent to spear motors. The land has been occupied by the police Inspectorate of Motor vehicles and a football pitch which has been a training ground for the Police football club.
Last week, President Yoweri Museveni, directed Jehoash Mayanja Nkangi, the chairman of the Uganda Land Commission, to give out the land to Kampala Businessman, Morgan Kiwanuka, of Oscar Industries.
Oscar industries, a subsidiary of the UNIGROUP are an indigenous Ugandan company, dealing in the manufacture of paper and packaging products. The Company is also a major provider of high quality Prepress and full color printing.
Nkangi says that Oscar industries plan to establish an industrial complex on this land. He however said that Kiwanuka has agreed to build some houses elsewhere for the police in exchange for the land.
The Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura confirmed the land give away but preferred not to divulge any other detail.
Recently, Police management instructed all its Division Police Commanders to survey all their land and have it registered to control possible encroachment on the police land.
