Salt Tax Abolished, Beer Tax Down, Cigarette Tax Up - 2008/2009 Budget

The Government of Uganda has placed a high premium on the country's revenue collection performance for the 2008/2009 financial year. With 70 percent of the budget to be funded through domestic revenue and tax collection, the cooperation of Ugandan tax payers will be paramount in the coming fiscal year.
In his budget speech today, the Minister of Finance Ezra Suruma announced a number of excise duty and value added tax proposals that may affect individual purchases from July 1st.
Excise duty is a tax levied on the producer of certain goods, commodities and activities. It is a separate tax from Value Added Tax
