Police Investigates Arua Health Officials Over Drugs Theft

Crime
Police in Arua are investigating the circumstances under which drugs have gone missing from several health centers in Arua district.

The investigations stem from complaints by the public that essential drugs supplied to the district by the government disappear before they are used by members of the public.

There have been constant complaints as to why people in need of drugs are referred to private clinics most of which are owned by the medical health workers.

Romano Okuja, the district criminal investigations officer, says that the police have already interrogated several people, including the district health officer Dr. Patrick Anguzu, in connection with the scam.

The investigations will narrow down specifically on the medical superintendent for Arua referral hospital Dr. Charles Olaro, senior nursing officers and in-charges of health centre fours.

Okuja says that the investigations are a direct order from President Yoweri Museveni, who was confronted by the same complaints when he visited the district recently.

Bernard Atiku, the chairperson for district social services committee says the district authorities are concerned about the theft of drugs and the district has resolved that the culprits must be brought to book.
