The Gulu Resident District Commisioner, Rtd Col. Walter Ochora, has fled his office after the walls started crumbling down.
Several other staffs fled the collapsing office block located at the district headquarters in Gulu Municipality.
The RDC has been forced to relocate to his official residence in senior quarters near Acholi Inn. The other staffs are however stuck in the dilapidated building because they have no alternative space.
The building also houses the office of the RDC, the 4th division public relation office, the District and Regional Internal Security offices, the police special branch, the district service commission and the Anti-mine offices.
The dilapidated office block was built in 1943 by the colonial government. Part concrete ceiling is already weak and has started showing signs of collapsing.
The RDC however says that he has secured funding from OTI, an NGO working in the district to renovate the building. He has cautioned the other civil servants to vacate the building.
