Eight passengers have been injured in an accident involving a fuel tanker and omnibus on the Masaka-Mbarara highway.
The accident occured on Tuesday at Nakyenyi, which is located 23 kilometers from Masaka.
Passangers in the omnibus taxi, registration number UAJ 578N, say the accident was caused by the driver of the tanker. They claim he was over-speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road when he rammed into them.
Catherine Appo, the assistant traffic officer in Masaka, says the driver of the taxi and seven of his passangers were injured. They are admitted in Kitovu Hospital and Masaka Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Accordign to Appo, the first people who arrived at the accident scene stole all the property of the injured passangers, including their identity cards. She says she cannot release the names of the injured because many of them are too ill to respond to questions regarding their identity.
According to Masaka police records, this is the third major traffic accident in four days. One of the accidents involved the Chief of the Kooki, Kamuswaga Apollo Kabumbuli, who survived an accident with a fish truck over the weekend.
