Business
A committee has been set up to address the wrangles between Shauliyako market vendors and its leadership.

The resolution to set up a committee was reached at during a day long General Assembly held at the premises of New Shauliyako market.

Grace Musige, the Spokesperson of the aggrieved vendors, says the committee will be mandated with streamlining the activities of the current Directors of Shaukiyako Market Vendors Association.

The committee will also draft a new constitution and review the agreement to reflect the authentic membership. The Assembly resolved that all the members be issued with certificates.

Attempts by Shauliyako market Vendors Association leadership to block the meeting were thwarted by a Court order issued by the Commercial Court last month. The same court had earlier on dismissed a case by the leadership Chaired by Rock Luuze seeking an injunction blocking the meeting.

Shauriyako market has been embroiled in wrangles for the last two years. Some vendors allege that the project was hijacked by members of the Steering Committee in collaboration with some officials within Kampala City Council.

623 vendors signed a memorandum of Association with Nakivubo Shauliyako Market Company Limited the Company that was endorsed by Kampala City Council to redevelop the market.

The vendors also resolved to issue their members with details of accountability which will then be scrutinized by the members and discussed at the next general assembly.

The traders accuse the leadership of the market of fraud. They are demanding for accountability of the 8 billion shillings which was collected from them for the redevelopment.

The new team has one month within which to present its report after which the General Assembly will be re-convened.
