Kabale Authorities Stop Shoddy Road Works

Crime
Authorities in Kabale district have stopped the construction of a 350 million shillings road in Kabale municipality, over poor workmanship.
Ufra Construction Company was contracted to tarmac Johnson Road, but the Resident District Commissioner Cox Nyakairu Apuuli, his Deputy Shafiq Sekandi and Kabale mayor Pius Ruhemurana intervened today to stop the shoddy works.
Nyakairu accuses the contractor of using loam soil instead of murram to grade the road. According to Nyakairu, the contractor was fetching soil from a resident's home to use on the road so as to minimize his expenditure.
Nyakairu has ordered the contractor to remove all the soil that had been used on the road, threatening to arrest the site engineer if his directive is disregarded.

According to the Mayor Pius Ruhemurana, Ufra has breached the contract they signed before embarking on the project. He accuses the contractor of narrowing the road that is contrary to the contract terms. Ruhemurana blames his technical team for failing to monitor the road works to ensure that the contractor abides by the set standards.
But Denis Niwamanya, Ufra's site engineers says the soil that has been rejected by the district leaders was approved by the municipal engineer. He however failed to produce the certificate of approval issued to him by the engineer.
