CID Extends Bond for Weekly Observer Journalists

The Criminal Investigations Department in Kampala has extended a police bond granted to two journalists of the Weekly Observer newspaper.

On December 13th the Editor of the Weekly Observer, James Tumusiime and the Political Editor, Semujju Ibrahim Nganda, were summoned to the Criminal Investigations Department to answer to charges that an article published in the newspaper promoted sectarianism.

The article in question authored by Nganda was published on December 1st. Titled iTinyefuza Meets FDC over Besigyei it analyzed the role between the military and ethnicity.

Tumusiime said he and Nganda reported to the Officer in Charge of Serious Crime, Moses Sakira yesterday morning in fulfillment of their bond requirements. Sakira extended the bond and asked the journalists to return to the police on December 28th.
