A man suspected to be behind a series of robberies in eastern Uganda has been killed in a shootout with the police.
The suspect, Moses Odoyi Ofono of Patte Village in Tororo District, was shot on Saturday after leading police officers to a sweetpotato garden where he was hiding three guns.
Iddi Ssenkumbi, the Eastern Region Police spokesperson, says Odoi picked up one of the guns and fired several shots at the police. The police responded, firing directly at Odoi, killing him on the spot.

The police in eastern Uganda have started to register all bodaboda cyclists and special hire taxi drivers because they have received information that they are being used as get-away cars in different crimes.
Ssenkumbi says the registration will protect those not involved in the crime. It will also help to identify any outsiders using the eastern Uganda districts as bases to launch their criminal operations.
