FDC Asks EC to Dismiss Defecting Party Councilors

News
The Forum for Democratic Change wants the electoral commission to dismiss its councilors for crossing over to the ruling National Resistance Movement.

Seven Soroti district councilors elected on the FDC ticket on Monday shifted camp to the movement. The councilors include Joseph Osoto the Soroti District Speaker and his Deputy Patrick Olinga.

Other councilors are Felix Obiol, Joseph Opit, Fred Okello, Jovans Odikor and Betty Among. The councilors announced their allegiance to the NRM in a meeting with president Museveni at Arapai Agricultural College in Soroti.

Museveni hailed the defectors for rejecting the lies that have been keeping them in FDC.
But the Forum for Democratic Change has reacted angrily to the defections.

Alice Alaso, the Secretary General of FDC, says the party has written to the electoral commission to withdraw the party mandate from the councilors.

Alaso says the party expects the electoral commission to declare the posts of the councilors vacant. She says that some of the councilors who defected have been serving indefinite suspension from the party.

Alaso warns that FDC will take legal action against the clerk to Soroti district council if he allows the rebel Speaker to chair a council session.
