AIDS remains one of the significant problems haunting Nebbi district. The HIV and AIDS prevalence rate has shot up to 7.6 percent from 6.7percent over the past two years.
The emerging face of HIV and AIDS in Nebbi district is significantly turning younger, and feminine.
An assessment by the AIDS Information Center last year, shows a high prevalence rate among adult females with a 7.9 percent compared to 7.0 percentage for males.
Wanican Benjamin, the HIV Aids focal person in Nebbi, says even more worrying is the high HIV prevalence rate among the youths aged between 25 and 49 years. The prevalence rate among the youths is estimated at 9.8percent.
The prevalence rate among children aged between one and 13 years is slightly lower with 5.9 percent.
The district AIDS focal persons have embarked on a massive HIV and AIDS Voluntary Counseling and testing campaign intended to scale down the prevalence rates.
Wanican, says up to 50 counselors' and laboratory technicians have been trained to offer the urgently needed counseling and testing services.
