Business came to a standstill in Arua town on Thursday when Police and Prison warders started shooting while pursuing a suspect who had escaped from court.
Matia Asega was due to appear in court when he jumped over the fence and took off.
Police and Prison warders opened fire to scare him sending people in Arua town to run for safety.
Asega was re-arrested by residents about 500 meters from the court but was beaten into comma before he was handed over to the Police. He is now admitted at Arua referral hospital.
Arua district police commander Julius Salube said that Asega was due to be arraigned in court of charges of possessing a dangerous weapon. He was arrested by the police early this week while carrying a panga at night.
He said that although Asega denied having ill intentions to use the weapon, the Police believe he is one of the thugs who have been attacking people in Arua town.
Salube said that Police are to prefer an additional charge of escape from custody when Asega appears in court on Friday.
