Robbers Attempt Attack on Equity Bank Adjumani

Crime
A private security guard has been killed and another critically injured in an attempted bank robbery in Adjumani district.

Charles Ssebambulidde, the Adjumani District Police Commander, says the two guards employed by High-Tec Security Group, were on watch at Equity Bank when they were attacked at about 2 a.m. this morning. He says the robbers clobbered Juma Gaddafi to death and beat Dennis Obora into a coma.

Patrick Akumu, the Northwestern Regional Police Commander, says that once the guards were dealt with, the robbers obtained access into the bank by burning the locks with welding guns.

The amount of money and property stolen from the bank is still unknown. Officer Ssebambulidde says no arrests have been made in connection with robbery. He says the police are tracing for a car, which several residents saw parked in front of Equity Bank Adjumani late last night.

The police are also examining footage from security cameras to ascertain the identity of the suspects.

This is the second armed attack on a financial institution in the West Nile this year. A few months ago robbers broke into Shumuk Forex Bureau and stole more than 40 million shillings. That case remains unresolved.
