Court Stops Development on Amuru Town Council Land

News
High Court has issued an injunction stopping Amuru town council from using 60 acres of land, it acquired recently for expansion.

The Interim court order was issued today by the Gulu High Court registrar Isaac Muwata following complaints from an elderly woman Easter Omiro that the land belongs to her.

Aciro argues that Amuru town council acquired her 60 acres of land through a wrong person without her consent. However, Amuru town clerk Donato Oola insists the land was acquired through proper channels.

He says that all the owners of the land and local council leaders consented to the sale and signed the sale agreement.

Oola says that Omiro was among those who signed the sale agreement with her children and received 20 million shillings for the land.

He says that the issue of the land is being politicized by some councilors for selfish interests and jeopardizing the development of Amuru town council.

The hearing of the application is scheduled for August 20th.
