The District Kadhi of Masaka, Sheikh Huzairu Kiruuta has been removed from office for failing to perform his official duties.
Over the weekend 22 of the 42 councilors of the Masaka Muslim Council voted to suspend Kiruuta from office indefinitely. During the charged meeting, the councilors accused Kiruuta of defying council resolutions and of failing to work for growth of Islam.
Hajji Isaac Semujju, the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council representative for Bukoto East in Masaka, says the council instituted several working committees for the finance, planning, health and education sectors, which have never been operationalized. He says the failure of those committees is the sole responsibility of Sheikh Kiruuta.
Sheikh Kiruuta is one of the longest-serving District Kadhis in Uganda. He has worked in that post for the past 34 years.
Hajji Semujju claims that over the past three decades Kiruuta has oppressed Muslims in Masaka and it is time for him to go.
