The High court in Masindi has sentenced a 28-year-old man to 10-years in jail for theft.
Court presided over by Justice Ralph Ochan, heard that on 10th May 2002, John Kiiza, a resident of Kasomboro village, Kyabigambire sub county in Hoima district, attacked and robbed William Mugisa, of Byerima village in Masindi district of his trouser and a T-shirt.
According to prosecution, Kiiza used a deadly weapon, a machete to rob Mugisa.
The Trouser and T-shirt were valued at 23,000 shillings.
Kiiza was arrested immediately, and has for the last 8-years been on remand in Masindi government prison.
Kiiza looked calm in the dock, accepted the charges, and pleaded for mercy.
But Justice Ochan, ruled that Kiiza must face the year jail sentence, a punishment that should serve as a deterent for other petty robbers.
The judge however said the 10-year-jail term includes the period Kiiza has spent on remand, meaning that he will have to spend more 3 years in prison.
