President Yoweri Museveni is unhappy about what he describes as the growing fights over tenders in the various divisions of Kampala city.
Presiding over the swearing in ceremony of Pastor Peter Ssematimba, as the new LC 3 for Rubaga division,in Kampala, the president noted that several developmental programs in the divisions have been thwarted by infights over tenders.
He described it as unhealthy for leaders to ignore their responsibilities to the people, and instead resort to fights over who gets what tender.
The President cited Kawempe as one of the divisions in Kampala, which has become a hotbed for tender fights. He however warned that if not controlled, the fight over tenders is a disease that is likely to spread and affect all development efforts in the country.
Museveni asked Ssematimba to focus on providing services that include garbage collection, road maintenance and drainage. He dismissed claims that Kampala city lacks funds to work on the roads.
Kampala mayor, Alhaji Nasser Ntege Ssebagala, noted that KCC needs 200 billion shillings per year, to grade the 1,050 kilometers city road stretches to match international city standards.
Ssematimba, who is also the proprietor of Super Fm, urged the opposition not to regard him as an enemy, but rather act as a partner in development.
