Lukyamuzi wants Environment Day Declared a Public Holiday

News
Environmentalist Ken Lukyamuzi wants the International day on the environment which falls every June 5, declared a public holiday.

Lukyamuzi, also the Conservative Party president, argues that the environment is such an important issue that should be given utmost importance, much more than tomorrow's Heroes' Day.

He says with Uganda feeling the effects of climate change, global warming and other environmental problems, it is high time government devoted the day to highlight environmental issues.

Lukyamuzi says on such a day all Ugandans, for example, could be encouraged to plant trees and collect garbage.

He says the environment lobby is drafting the proposal to be presented to government within two weeks.

Lukyamuzi says instead of holding a national celberation in just one location annually, such a celebration should be held from the national level down to villages.
