The foot and Mouth disease has broken out in Arua district killing over ten heads of cattle.
Dr Gordon Victor Toa, the Arua District Veterinary Officer says that the disease has been detected in animals in Mvara and Arua municipality abattoir.
He says that the disease has also been detected in animals in Yumbe district.
Dr Toa says that they have stopped the issuance of livestock movement permits to traders to contain further spread of the disease.
He also says that they are considering quarantine. Dr. Toa says that they have asked the ministry of Agriculture Animal industries and Fisheries to provide funds and drugs for a mass vaccination campaign of livestock in the district.
Foot and mouth disease is a highly contagious and some times fatal viral disease that affects domestic animals such as cows, sheep, goats and pigs.
