John Aciga, the Moyo district Engineer has been arrested for embezzlement and abuse of office.
Aciga was arrested over the weekend by a team of Police officers and officials from the Inspectorate of Government.
He is accused of diverting 18 million shillings that was meant for road maintenance in the district in the last financial year.
It is alleged that after misusing the money, Aciga forged accountability of 12.5 million shillings, claiming he used the money to buy tires for the district grader.
Simon Peter Opolot, the spokesman of the IGG says that Aciga will be charged in the Anti corruption court with abuse of office and corruption.
John Govule, the Moyo district Police Commander has confirmed the arrest. He says that the Police was contacted by the Inspectorate of Government to help them arrest Aciga.
The arrest of the district engineer has sent cold shivers in the Moyo district leadership.
Peter Iku Dolo, the Moyo LC 5 chairman says that the arrest took all of them by surprise.
He says that previously, the Inspectorate issued reports before conducting any arrest, but there was no report issued to them regarding the case of Aciga.
