Police have arrested nine suspects in connection to armed robberies in Pallisa and other districts in Eastern Uganda.
The suspects are Martin Olinga a UPDF deserter, Julius Opedo, Sharriff Obola, Justine Enangu a witchdoctor; Charles Ojo and Joseph Esanu. Others are Peter Oyugi and Moses Ochieno.
Amos Gumisiriza, the DPC Pallisa says that the suspects were picked up, yesterday in an operation conducted by the police.
He says that police is still searching for other suspects believed to be part of the gang, who are on the run.
Gumisiriza says that the suspects have been operating across the Eastern districts of Pallisa, Budaka, Bukedea, Soroti, Mbale, Namutumba and Kumi.
He says that the group has been targeting travelers, super markets, Boda-boda cyclists and staging illegal road blocks on highways.
Gumiriza says that on June 27, the suspects tried to rob a prominent businessman in Gogonyo but police and residents foiled their mission.
During the operation four motorcycles, one vehicle, live ammunitions and household items were found hidden under ground in Soroti.
Gumisiriza says that the suspects will be charged with aggravated robbery, attempted murder and illegal possession of fire arms. Mande Kintu, the deputy RDC Pallisa says that district is ready to apprehend all criminals.
